Orthopedic Physical Therapy

Orthopedic rehabilitation encompasses a wide range of injuries and problems involving the joints, muscles, tendons, ligaments, bones and peripheral nerves. In physical therapy we work to resolve pain, limited motion, gait problems, weakness, loss of function, and to prevent recurrence.

Sports Physical Therapy

Athletic injuries are essentially orthopedic injuries which have a sport specific component. Our goal for the athlete is to return the patient to the sport quickly, while preventing re-injuries through proper warm-up and training procedures. Our program is uncommonly effective, helping return patients to previous levels of sports activity through exercises for the trunk, upper, and lower extremities and back.

Pre & Post Surgery Rehabilitation
Prior to our following a recent surgical procedure, you may receive physical therapy to improve your current condition.

Having physical therapy prior to surgery may help to speed the recovery following surgery by improving range of motion, strength, flexibility, gait, and/or function. Also, education regarding the rehabilitation following your specific surgery may be included as well as immediate post-operative precautions and instructions. Rehabilitation may also be prescribed to improve your current condition with the goal of avoiding possible surgery.

Post-surgical rehabilitation encourages a faster recovery through range of motion improvements, strengthening, neuromuscular re-education, gait training, and/or functional activities. A home exercise program instruction may be included in your treatment to promote a quicker recovery and to help you reach your goals.

Hand Therapy

Because of the unique structure, anatomy and functional requirements of the hand, specialized training is necessary for proper rehabilitation. Hand rehabilitation is truly a subspecialty of orthopedics. Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists and physicians work closely together to emphasize rehabilitation and treatment for the specific surgical procedure you have received.

Spinal Rehabilitation

Spinal rehabilitation refers to problems with your neck or back. Because of the unique structure of the spine and special problems related to this area, specialized training is necessary to ensure appropriate intervention.

Because the majority of problems are mechanical, relating to specific activities, postures, and habits of the patient's and client's life style, a mechanical solution is necessary. A thorough evaluation will be performed to identify movements, positions, and activities that aggravate the condition as well as those that will decrease symptoms.

Functional Capacity Evaluations

The Functional Capacity Evaluation (FCE) is an objective group of evaluation techniques that provide reliable information regarding an individuals ability to perform activities of daily living and or work function. The FCE is an intricate component for determining the proper course of further treatment, ie: returning to work, disability or the necessity for continued physical therapy or work conditioning. Each FCE will be tailored to the individuals job description or unique circumstances. It will also consist of numerous validity and reliability measurements to help determine if the participant is giving a full and consistent effort. The requesting party will receive a comprehensive, yet easy to understand, report that will guide them in making a timely and appropriate decision for the patient.

Industrial Rehabilitation

Program entails job specific exercises that help an employee regain pre-injury competence, increase endurance, and help reduce the likelihood of repetitive movement injury.

Work Conditioning

During the initial evaluation, job duties are extensively discussed with the patient as well as anticipated return to work goals. Right from the very first day we are directing our care at return to full function or modifying the work environment so that the patient can return to work as soon as possible. To that end, we work extensively with work simulation and conditioning activities with emphasis on repetition in order to prepare the patient for his or her return to work. Additionally, we work closely coordinating with any case managers assigned to the patient's case to be sure all aspects of the patient's care is covered.

Job Site Evaluations

Job site specialists will work with you to help reduce the chance of acute and chronic injuries. Up front investment in proper job design will reduce injuries thereby saving your company time and money in the long run.

Other job-related evaluation:

* General physical therapy evaluations
* Work Tolerance testing to determine a person's suitability for a specific job

Occupational Therapy

Occupational Therapy is skilled treatment that helps individuals achieve independence in all facets of their lives. It gives people the “skills for the job of living” necessary for independent and satisfying lives. Services typically include:

  • Customized treatment programs to improve one’s ability to perform daily activities
  • Comprehensive home and job site evaluations with adaptation recommendations
  • Performance skills assessments and treatments
  • Adaptive equipment recommendations and usage training
  • Guidance to family members and caregivers
Neurological Rehabilitation

Neurological rehabilitation involves injuries, disease, and problems related to the central nervous system. In occupational therapy the goal is to achieve maximal, independent level of function through strengthening, range of motion, coordination and balance training as well as functional activities.

Fitness Conditioning Program

The therapist's approach to getting and staying in shape. The targeted program helps the inactive or underactive prepare for increased physical exertion, including home exercise, by teaching the proper way to condition muscles. At the end of your program you will be able to safely continue your exercise routine at home, in the gym, or outside.

ASTYM

ASTYM (A-stim) treatment is a rehabilitation program that stimulates the regenerative healing process of the body. This approach is a non-invasive therapy that works fast and consistently. The ASTYM system rejuvenates muscles, tendons and ligaments. It gets rid of scar tissue problems from old injuries that can restrict the natural movement of soft tissue, and those restrictions can cause pain.
